| A generous snowbelt covers DeRuyter in winter providing sledding and skating and keeps business brisk at several nearby ski centers. Toggenburg is about 11 miles is from DeRuyter, Labador is 9 miles, Song Mountain is 18 miles and Greek Peak is 27 miles from town. DeRuyter Lake offers year-around fishing, swimming, sailing and other boating activities in the summer. DeRuyter Lake is bordered on its west side by Highland Forest. Highland Forest Park The entrance is near the intersection of West Lake Road and Route 80. It is a large park, nearly two miles long and it has picnic facilities, large group pavilions, camp sites, and cabins. There is also a large all-season meeting/dining facility. There are a number of horse riding, hiking, running and cross-country skiing trails. The air is clean and the attractive rural setting makes for pleasant walking and running. Major state parks in the Finger Lakes region and Fayetteville are within a half day drive. The area is also known for good hunting and snowmobiling. The village has bowling alleys and there are a number of golf courses in the area. |
